SINGAPORE MARITIME ACADEMY (SMA)

In 1957, Singapore Polytechnic (Dept of Nautical Studies) took over training of navigational officers from the Sailors’ Institution. Subsequently the Department of Marine Engineering was added to train marine engineer officers as well. In 1991, the two departments combined to form the Maritime Technology and Transportation(MTT).

Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) was formed in 2000 as a result of a merger of Maritime Technology and Transportation Department of Singapore Polytechnic and the National Maritime Academy of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore.

SMA has been conferred the Lloyd’s List maritime Asia Awards - Best seafarer Training Institute in 2000 and 2002, Youth Development in 2004, 2005, 2006 and Training and Crewing Award in 2007. SMA has also won The Education and Training award at the Seatrade Asia Awards 2008, and the Best Maritime Institute Award at the Marine BizTv Second Annual International Maritime Awards 2008.

MARITIME AND PORT AUTHORITY OF SINGAPORE (MPA)

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was established on 2 February 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and International Maritime Centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore’s strategic maritime interests. It is the driving force behind Singapore’s port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative.

MPA partners the industry and other agencies to enhance safety, security and environmental protection in our port waters, facilitate port operations and growth, expand the cluster of maritime ancillary services, and promote maritime R&D and manpower development.

Martech2010

MARTECH 2010

MARTECH 2010 is jointly organised by the Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA). The theme for MARTECH 2010 is ' New Frontiers '. It will be held in conjunction with the Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) for 2010.

MARTECH has been organised regularly in Singapore since 1994. It is a biennial international event for the maritime world to exchange views, experiences and innovative ideas. It has become an important arena for technocrats, professionals, academics, researchers and related interest groups to gather as they move into the 'new frontiers' of our maritime world.

MARTECH 2010 will showcase 33 international speakers, 13 exhibitors and a shipboard workshop through the Singapore/Malacca Strait.
